Rules for the storage of hunting weapon

Since weapons are a high-risk item, they are subject to legal requirements regarding their storage conditions. The rules for the storage of weapons and ammunition determine that the owner of the weapon is responsible for complying with all requirements.

It is the owner who is obliged to create conditions that ensure the safe storage of weapons. Any possibility of access by unauthorised persons must be completely excluded. Handing weapons or cartridges over to others is also prohibited.

Weapons and cartridges may only be stored at the registered address of a person who holds a firearms licence.

  • Metal cabinets that lock with a key;
  • Special safes with a lock for storing weapons;
  • Weapon storage boxes made of high-strength materials;
  • Wooden boxes with an iron-clad surface.

Safety starts at home

A firearm is only as safe as the way it is stored. Keep weapons unloaded, store ammunition separately and make sure the keys never end up in the wrong hands.

To store weapons responsibly, you need special safes that meet all the conditions set by the rules for storing weapons at home. The walls of the safe must be at least 2 mm thick.

Following the storage rules, buy a safe and choose a place for it that is hidden from view. Such safes can also be built into furniture.

Hunters own not only firearms but also edged weapons. Ammunition is an essential addition to firearms; store it in special cartridge bags or in a gun safe with a separate compartment for ammunition.
